KHS bike sizing guide

If you are buying direct for us, please start your sizing process by using the size guide at the bottom of the geometry table on each bike page (you will find this under the bike description).

It’s not always as simple as “I’m usually a medium”. Always check the standover measurement and compare it to your inside leg in your cycling shoes. We recommend you;

  1. Stand against a wall in your shoes
  2. Stick a book up there
  3. Measure from the top of the book the floor – you can do it on your own with a metal tape!

You really want 1cm or 1/2inch minimum clearance on road bikes (eg flite 300/100, a bit more on sloping models like CX200/Flite 500) and 3cm or 1inch minimum and ideally more on mountain bikes. Good standover clearance is even more important for women as men tend not to straddle top tubes in the same way many women riders do.

If you fall on the cusp of two sizes, decide if you want a larger size with longer reach for a more flat backed, aerodynamic, aggressive position (but with potentially less standover clearance) or the smaller size with a slightly shorter top tube, allowing you to sit up more, putting less work through your back and core muscles and have better standover clearance. Your bike will show a bit more seat post. We can help you fine tune your position with a different stem length suggestions. We keep spares in different lengths.

If you have a bike already that you like or think is too big or small, try to compare the horiziontal toptube measurements with our bikes. Do this by running a tape measure from the centre of seat tube to centre of headtube keeping your tape level with the floor at all times. You can also test the seat tube length as well from the centre of bottom bracket (crank axle bolt) to the top of the seatpost clamp where it meets the frame.

We think sizing is really important to obtain the perfect ride so if you have any concerns or fall between sizes as we will help you get the right bike. For mind comfort you will know that you can send your unused bike back for a refund or size replacement as long as it hasn’t left your front room (our showroom!). Just get in contact and we will arrange collection for an at cost £30.00 carriage and collection fee. You can email or call us to discuss sizing or arrange a demo and free sizing and set up appointment at our Essex HQ close to the M11/A14/Stansted Airport.
